  1. Davis Arinaitwe was put in a difficult position by the Ugandan management.
It was asking a lot of him to assert control over cricketers who are far more experienced and possibly not that keen to cop a rev-up from a 20 year old.
To make matters worse, Arinaitwe has yet to prove himself as an international cricketer.
In his eight matches he has scored 17 runs at 8.50 and taken 8 wickets at 39.00. He has potential. That is clear. But surely he is under enough pressure simply trying to hold his place in the side.
The selectors didn’t do him any favours either. Not for the first time, they omitted key players in favour of some notable under achievers.
At 31 years of age, Benjamin Musoke has played 30 international limited over matches without scoring a half century. His batting average of 11.83 is quite obviously unacceptable for a specialist willow wielder.
Others have questioned the reasons for including Raymond Otim, a leg spinner who is rarely called to bowl and averages just 5.57 with the bat from seven innings.
The unavailability of Patrick Ochan and to a lesser extent, Jimmy Okello, is unfortunate but they have departed and life must go on without them.
Hamza Saleh, Emmanuel Isaneez, Charles Waiswa and Roger Mukasa were available but not chosen. Isaneez was in the touring party but mysteriously, was never called upon.
His international record, much like Waiswa and Saleh, is impressive.

    Charles Waiswa

    Innings 8
    No’s 6
    Runs 12
    HS 5*
    Batting average 6.00

    Wickets 16
    Best Bowling 3-7
    Bowling average 22.37

    Hamza Saleh
    Matches 8
    Innings 7
    No’s 2
    Runs 166
    HS 86*
    Batting average 33.20

Mukasa is a bold young opening batsman who should be persevered with. A Ugandan official criticised him for being too adventurous at the top of the order. Perhaps, young Mukasa is more in tune with the modern concept of power plays and field restrictions than his more conservative advisers. He should be encouraged to take on the bowling in the first 15 overs.

  2. Could you tell me if Arinaitwe is an all-rounder or just a bowler?
    Thanks

  3. Hi Boony

I think Davis Arinaitwe is mainly a bowler (RAOB), who bats a bit.

He’s only young, so his batting may become productive as he gains experience.

  4. i honestly believe that Davis Arinaitwe has proven himself as a bowling all rounder evidenced by his very useful runs for the team in both under 19 world cups he has featured in not forgetting he batted at no. 5 for his team. Not forgetting Davis’s batting performance when the Ugandan team played 20-20 games against Kenya in Kenya and the recently concluded M.C.C Tour to Uganda. thank u
